After a weekend apart from the
delegations and with host families, both the Netherlands and US
delegations met up in Utrecht! The previous night, the girls had all
camped at Carmen's house with Jordana and I, while the boys slept at
Max's house with Hans. We had delegation time, and did some activities
in the park in Utrecht, then toured the city with Hans as our tour guide
(he grew up there!). We explored the city church, the monk's garden,
and went to the University Museum where we learned about Uganda and
other areas of conflict. As part of the interactive exhibit, the
delegates were asked "What is Peace?" They wrote their answers and put
them on the windows of the exhibit.
We ate lunch at FEBO where the food comes out of the wall! You just have to put a coin in to get your Dutch entrée!
That night, we were invited to Carmen's "sensation white" party
through her school. Everyone had to wear white and the kids danced until
11:30! At first, a lot of the US delegates were hesitant due to the
loud music and crowds, but they stuck through it and ended up having a
great time! And really enjoyed the dancing :)
Today, we are having a pool party at Carmen's house,
then bike riding to Sieuwe's house, where mini-camp will be held for the
next three days! Updates to come, thank you all again for this
opportunity!
